Young reporter chats to Olympic golden girl
Olivia Marchant interviewing Nicola Adams
A BUDDING Morley reporter had her first brush with fame interviewing an Olympic gold medallist.
Olivia Marchant was asked by organisers of this year’s Leeds City Council’s Breeze on Tour if she would like to be a reporter for the day and as a result got to chat to Leeds’ own Olympic gold medallist boxer, Nicola Adams.
Nicola was welcomed by cheering crowds when she arrived at the event at Kirkstall Abbey with her Olympic gold medal on show.
Olivia, who attends Batley Grammar School, joined other Breeze young reporters on stage to ask questions, such as what she ate before a big match, how she got involved in the sport and what she does with her treasured gold medal when she isn’t wearing it.
Olivia learned that Nicola ate Frosties for breakfast everyday, enjoyed going to the cinema and eating out at Nandos when not training in the ring, and when she isn’t wearing her gold medal, it’s her mum who keeps a watchful eye over it.
Olivia said: “I was in awe at meeting Nicola. She was really lovely, friendly and seemed a little overwhelmed herself at the interest in her since her big fight.
“She was also surprisingly small for someone who packs such as punch!”
Lord Mayor Coun Ann Castle told Nicola of the city’s pride in her achievement and she was also presented with a bouquet.
