Police have launched a major operation into burglaries and theft related offences in Morley.

Operation Beachhaven has seen police patrols in the area after a spate of crimes, including a number of thefts from cars.

Around half of such recent crimes involved vehicles that were left unlocked.

Insp Ian O’Brien said: “I would urge the public to ensure their vehicles are kept secure and to not leave valuable items on display.

“Around 50 per cent of the thefts we have seen from late have been from vehicles that were simply left unlocked.

“With regard to any sort crime, I’d like to add that members of the public should not hesitate to give us a call. If they see something that they think looks wrong, then it probably is.”

This month also sees the start of the police’s new “darker nights” initiative which will see more road safety and school patrols.
