A Mirfield pub has been revealed as one of the nation’s top real ale boozers.

The Flower Pot on Calder Road is one 16 Yorkshire pubs judged as one of the best local pubs by volunteers with the Campaign for Real Ale.

Members have been judging their local pubs, looking at decor, value for money, customer service and, of course, the quality of their beer.

Camra today announced its list of over 200 Local Pubs of the Year to launch April’s Community Pubs Month.

A Camra spokesman said the aim was to highlight the role pubs play in community life.

A recent survey was Camra revealed that 75 per cent of pub-goers believe a well run pub is as important to community life as a post office, local shop or community centre - but despite this 29 pubs are still being lost in the UK every week.

In Yorkshire - where some Camra branches have yet to decide their best pub - the list also includes:

Bradford: Jacobs Beer House.

The Kirkstall Bridge Inn, Leeds

Doncaster: Corner Pin.

Halifax: Three Pigeons.

Harrogate: Harrogate Tap.

Huddersfield: Grove Inn.

Beverley: Chequers Micropub.

Keighley: Brown Cow.

Hawes: White Hart Country Inn.
