Morley town councillors have elected a new mayor.
Mayor of Morley for 2014-15 is Coun Wyn Kidger who takes over the role from Coun Tom Leadley.
Coun Kidger, who represents Morley Borough Independents in Churwell, said she was over the moon at becoming the town’s mayor.
She lives in Tingley and has two daughters, one at university and the other in sixth form.
Coun Kidger is involved in the Morley Murals Committee, is chairwoman of Morley Community Archives and is also on the town’s World War One Committee.
She has described herseld as “passionate about Morley”.
Coun Kidger said she will use her year’s fundraising efforts to help young people in the area.
“I have always fundraised for kids and worked with them - after all, they are tomorrow’s adults and our future,” she said.
“I will be handing out pockets of money throughout the year to groups who support local young people under the age of 18, whether it be sports teams, dance groups or community led youth organisations.”
Coun Kidger said she wasproud of her new role representing the town she loved, and knew her late husband, Neville, would be proud too.
She said: “Five years ago when I lost Neville I thought my life was over, but I am here now because of my girls, friends, family and councillors.
“I’m sure Neville is looking down on me now and is very, very proud.”
