A housing developer has recruited a local apprentice to help with the building of an estate in Morley.

Naheem Amin is one of six new young workers joining Barratt Homes to work on the St Andrew’s View development in the town.

The 2015 intake, which includes five bricklayers and a joiner, is part of the company’s ongoing apprenticeship scheme aimed at addressing a constructions skills gap in the industry.

Darren Johnson, Construction Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, said he was pleased to welcome the six new recruits. es to our sites across West and South Yorkshire this year. Over the past year, the construction industry has seen a boost, so  we  are  happy  to  be  able  to  offer  more  young  people  the  opportunity  to  develop important skills by undertaking our industry recognised scheme.

“We are proud that many of  our  current  site  managers  and  assistant  site  managers  started  within  Barratt  as apprentices, so we’re hopeful that our newest intake will become important facets of our team for years to come.”
