It may be a little too soon to think about Christmas in October, but the opening of Morley’s new Wetherspoons in December will present the perfect opportunity to mix seasonal shopping with a pint.
Independent shops and businesses in the town are planning to stay open until late on the evening of Tuesday December 2 to coincide with opening of The Picture House pub on Queen Street. Several are offering discounts to celebrate the occasion.
Town events manager Rachael Kennedy said: “We have done similar events over the last couple of years and they are always worthwhile, putting Morley on the map in terms of our growing independent retail offer.
“Morley Chamber of Trade and Commerce CIC are throwing their weight behind initiatives like this to support the local economy. We hope people will put this festive event in their diaries and come along to Queen Street to shop local whilst supporting Westherspoons, our newest addition to the town centre.”
Ladies clothes shop Room 94, which recently won Customer Service Award at the Morley Business Awards among those taking part.
Owner Janine Hubbuck said: “I think the Wetherspoons will be great for Morley and it will bring more people into the town centre. It’s something for everyone, the only problem will be when the summer comes round and I have to watch everyone sat outside with a drink while I’m still working!”
