Morley’s branch of Superdrug, based in Windsor Court in the town centre, is to close at the end of the week.
The surprise news will result in a number of job losses at the shop, with the chain declining to specify the reasons behind the closure.
A spokeswoman for the company said: “We can confirm that our Morley store will close on November 22.
“We’d like to thank all our customers for their support and hope they will visit us to pick up their health and beauty essentials at their closest Superdrug store which will be in the White Rose Centre.”
Town events manager Rachael Kennedy said: “To lose Superdrug is a big loss to the town centre and to the town council.
“ In Morley we strive to have a good mix of big retailers and independent shops on the high street so it is a shame to lose such a big name.
“It leaves a bit of a void which we hope will be filled soon. Our thoughts are with the staff who have lost their jobs and we hope they find work again soon.”
