A Tingley fish and chip shop owner has come up with a crafty way to raise money for the British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Caroline Spillane of Syke Fish and Chips has been working on a selection of knitted and crocheted poppies which are now available for a donation to the appeal from the chippy.

Caroline said: “We have been very moved by all the tributes to those who gave their lives for the country, and we were looking for a way to do our bit. The shop has always supported the Poppy Appeal so I thought this was a good opportunity. I wanted to make affordable long lasting poppies, especially those that would appeal to women and children so I have made my poppies in to hairclips, key rings and bookmarks as well as brooches.”

Poppy Appeal organiser for the area, Chris Newman, said: “We are delighted that Caroline has made such an effort to help the appeal, it is important to reach as many people as possible with our message and these lovely poppies will help.”
