A community centre under threat from closure will be used as a polling station at next year’s General Election, it has been confirmed.

Lewisham Park Centre which has provided a place for nearby voters to mark their poll cards for a number of years, is currently in limbo after Leeds City Council announced it was seeking to offload the youth centre as a means of saving money.

The possibility of merging the polling station with Morley Town Hall emerged, although this will now no longer be the case, with elderly voters saved the hassle of an extra mile’s worth of walking distance.

Leeds City Council confirmed it had undertaken a review of polling districts in the city, starting at the end of May. Although some alterations have been made in places, these will not affect Morley.

The election is expected to take place on May 7 next year.
