JD Wetherspoon is one step closer to opening in the town centre as they have submitted their planning application.
The pub chain hopes to be open at the former Blockbusters store and Arthritis UK charity shop on Queen Street, called The Picture House.
The application says that the pub will both a drinking and eating establishment with customer area, kitchen toilets and bar on the ground floor with back of house on the first floor.
It says ‘the new area will only occupy half of the first floor, which leaves the potential for part of the ground floor customer area to have double height space.
It also says it is keen to advertise the local history of the area by displaying local history artwork around the premises and internal areas are also decorated with commissioned artwork and sculptures created by locally sourced artists.’
There will be a large kitchen area and an external terraced area with seating to replace the back yard. There will also be a new glazed canopy the the rear.
The opening hours will be 7am-12.30am Monday to Friday, 7am-1.30am Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays .
The application says the bar servery will be the focal point of the premises along with a fireplace.
According to Wetherspoon’s Planning Statement, the location and type and design of the development hopes to include maintaining high and stable levels of economic growth and employment.
It also says they are a member of National Pubwatch, which secures a safe and responsible drinking estbalishment in the town to help reduce alcohol-related crime.
