ADWALTON were in winning form in Division Three when they produced a good all-round effort to become the first side to beat Buttershaw St Paul's A this season.
In hot conditions, the Drighlington-based side did not get off to the best of starts with only opener Phil Davis (26) of the top four reaching double figures. But their innings improved as it went on, initially through Stewart Donohoe (45) and Craig
Hotchen (38). Mark Sales (26) and Chris Priestley (32 not out) kept up the good work and they reached 223-8 from 45 overs.
Adwalton’s opening bowlers, Steve Laycock and Simon Bagnell, then did a terrific job as they quickly pegged Buttershaw back at the start of their reply. The visitors were soon reduced to 31-5 and although they recovered through James Sayer (24), Abu Darwood (44) and Dave Horsfall (36) they fell behind the asking rate. In the end they settled for denying Adwalton full points and achieved this, just, finishing on 169-9. Bagnell ended with 4-27, Steve Laycock 3-33 and Neil Laycock 2-30.
ADWALTON A lost a close game against East Leeds A in Division Four.
Batting first, Adwalton recovered from 55-4 to make 173 with Chris Davey (43) top scoring and valuable contributions also coming from John Mitchell (26), James Abbott (26) and Ian Lindley (21).
In reply, East Leeds were well placed at 123-3 then lost five wickets for 29 runs and needed a fighting unbroken stand of 25 between Chris Ewing (15 not out) and Usman Rashid (12 not out) to see them home in the 46th over. With Adam Lines (22) earlier retiring hurt this was their last pair so it was a tight finish. Dean Jackson claimed 4-32 for Adwalton with Matthew Lyles taking 3-35.
