THERE were two important wins for Adwalton CC in the Central Yorkshire League last Saturday.
The first team kept their promotion bid on track with a two-wicket success at home to East Ardsley A, while in Division Three Adwalton A recorded their first win of the season, by 60 runs at Hopton Mills A.

Simon Bagnall and Simon Donahoe played
key roles in Adwalton’s last-over derby triumph against Ardsley A.

After early wickets for Bagnall, who finished with 4-55, Ardsley A replied through Dave Chester (40), Tom Chester (40), Ashley Chapman (30), Michael Pearson (22) and J Hall (23) to close on 208-9.

Dean Jackson claimed 2-25, Neil Laycock 2-47 and Steve Laycock 1-69 for the home side.

P Bennett and fellow opener C Davey (five fours) both made 21 before Donahoe took the initiative, blasting seven fours and five sixes in his fine innings of 71.

After a flurry of wickets, Bagnall then made a vital 32 and assisted by Mark Sales (15no), Steve Laycock (15 including two fours and a six) and Gareth Murrell (6no) as Adwalton reached 212-9 with four balls left.

Michael Pearson had fine figures of 4-61 in 17.2 overs with five maidens, while Tom Chester (2-90), Rob Hoban (1-16) and Danny Walker (1-20) took the other wickets.

Adwalton A’s success saw them move off the foot of Division Three to be replaced by Hopton.

With just 10 men, Adwalton A reached 141-9 all out as Nick Gowland made 42, Graham Johnson 22, Ben Garner 26 and Scott Mclean 21. Vas Patel claimed 4-26, Danny Bradley 4-34 and David Greenwood 1-27.

Opener Patel top scored with 30 as Hopton crumbled to 81 all out with Matty Lyles leading the Adwalton A attack.

Lyles impressed with figures of 6-21 from 11 overs and four maidens, while Chris O’Reilly (1-23), Andy Ingham (1-11) and James Colburn (2-5 in five overs and three maidens) also struck.
