EAST ARDSLEY jumped into third position in CYL Division One on Saturday after convincingly beating an already downbeat Carlton side.
Playing their first game since overseas star Iftikar Mahmood had left the club, Carlton looked a shadow of the team that their previous league form had shown and, despite missing two first team regulars themselves, Ardsley came up with a crushing 10
wicket win, taking less than 54 overs to complete the job.

The game went Ardsley's way from the start with Danny McTernan winning the toss and putting Carlton in on a bowler-friendly wicket. A combination of bad shot selection and some tight bowling saw the visitors lose wickets consistently, with only Keith Barrett (27) showing any resistance.

The four bowlers used all took wickets with Duncan Arnolda the pick with 3-23 from 11 overs. Ally Cooper (2-22), Ash Pearson (2-18) and Tom Chester (2-32) and a run out from from the skipper did the rest.

Another injury worry for next week, however, cropped up with Chester who pulled up with a hamstring injury after bowling his 12th over and sat out the rest of the game. He joins Mark Heald in the physio room, whereas opening bat Tim Marsden and opening bowler Christian Musgrave are both away on holiday for this week's clash against Wakefield St Michael's - where McTernan will pit his wits against a former ally in Geoff Hunt.

After being given 13 of Carlton's allotted 50 overs, Ardsley cantered to a six-point victory with 48 overs still left! Marsden (20 not out) and Arnolda (71 not out) - promoted up the order due to the possibility of rain - dispatched Carlton's six bowlers to all parts to secure the game and ensured Ardsley leap-frogged them in the table.

Despite a half century from Chris Towell, EAST ARDSLEY A suffered a five-wicket defeat at Methley A in Division Two.

Towell hit 53 and Chris Austwick 32 as Ardsley recovered from 74-7 to reach the respectability of 145 all out.

But the total proved 40 or so short as Methley reached their target with five wickets to spare in the 40th over. Wicket takers were Mick Pearson (2-28), Danny Walker (1-39), Towell (1-35) and Julian Smith (1-19).
