SUNDAY saw Drighlington FC Under 12s travel to top of the table Linthwaite for their second league game of the season.
They got off to a perfect start when Marc Willis picked the ball up from the kick-off to run 40 yards past the opposition before squaring for Jake Carney to score inside the first minute.
This set the tone for what was to become a tense but exciti
ng match. Aaron Burke worked hard on the wing to cross the ball to Bradley O'Donnell to score and Kieran Boulton followed with a further two goals.
Goal of the match came from Jake Carney who saw the opposition keeper off his line and responded with a 30 yard lob that flew straight into the back of the net to claim his second goal.
Both sides battled hard with defence and goalkeepers being tested at either end and the first half ended with a 5-2 lead in Drighlington's favour.
An equally dramatic second half followed with Kieran Boulton scoring again to claim his hat-trick.
When the final whistle was blown Drighlington claimed a 6-3 victory placing them second in the league with two wins in two games. Manager's MoM was a difficult decision with several players in the running, the award being given to a deserving Marc Willis.
The supporters decide Player of the Month and September's award went to Kieran Boulton.
The next game is on Sunday at home to Marsden.
