SUNDAY saw Churwell Chiefs under 9s back at Bruntcliffe fields as they took on a big Shaw Cross Sharks side.
First blood went to the Chiefs when Callum Bairstow scored an opportunist try from acting half back. Connor Thewlis then doubled the lead, finishing a flowing move that involved all the back line.

Shaw Cross started to use the slope to their advantage and after some powerful drives the Churwell defence was unable to stop scores leading to a half-time advantage to the Sharks.

With the benefit of the slope in the second half Churwell fought back. The driving runs of Max Light and Charlie Wright brought the Chiefs ever closer to the Shaw Cross line and inevitably this led to Tyler Cooper scoring in the corner. After a reply from Shaw Cross, Cooper crossed again and despite the efforts of both teams this was the end of the scoring.

Churwell's awards went to Thomas Smith (coaches award), Callum Bairstow (man of steel) and Brandon Warrior (man of the match). The Shaw Cross coach gave an opposition award to the Chiefs half back Charlie Reed for his running and offloading.
