ON a lovely Saturday afternoon, Mount entertained Drighlington with both hoping to keep up their 100 per cent records from the first week of the season in the Dales Council League.
Looking at the pitch, which was green to say the least and an outfield that represented more of a jungle than a field, both teams knew that runs were going to be hard to get. Drig won the toss and not surprisingly bowled first.

With Drighlington's
hero last week Ryan Woods away on holiday, the opening bowling fell to Graeme Thurston and Jake James and it was not long until the former picked up the opening wicket of Hafigi, as Thurston got one to swing back in and bowl him.

James managed to break through the defences of Sufi, who was bowled for four, and then had Nagr caught by Thurston on the boundary to leave Mount struggling on 17-3. This brought Soni to the crease and he led a counter attack, taking the game back to the Drig bowlers, hitting a quickfire 24 until Thurston managed to lure him into a false shot hitting in the air into the grateful hands of David Nelson at short cover.

This brought Gora to the crease, and Haji and Gora grounded out a crucial partnership of 50 to put Mount in control on 97-4, until Haji edged one behind off the military medium of Nelson into the hands of the keeper of Adam Whiteley.

Nelson then proceeded to get rid of Waza who was caught behind again to the safe hands of Whiteley. Diwaan came and went as Nelson bowled him for three and new boy Mark Redshaw got his first wicket for the club as he dismissed danger man Gera for 30, clean bowling him with a brilliant delivery.

Ranjuni decided to counter-attack and proceeded to smash Azam all over the shop. Nelson managed to get rid of Rawat, who was well caught by Chris Brewster, then Thurston returned to take the wicket of Ranjuni for 37, but the damage had already been done. Mount were finally all out for 142, with Thurston taking 3-13 off 12 overs, James taking 2-25, Redshaw 1-31 and Nelson 4-21.

Drig went out to bat in good weather hoping to see off the new ball and keep wickets in hand to attack the bowlers in the final overs. Openers Allan Mitchell and Chris Brewster started conservatively, but Mitchell spooned one in the air off the bowling of Gora and was out for one. Then Brewster and Nelson started a mini revival with a partnership of 43, until Brewster got one off Hafeji that didn't bounce and went under his bat, and was out for a defensive but important 12.

This brought Adam Whiteley to the crease, who was looking good from the first ball and Drig seemed to be cruising at 82-2, until disaster struck when Whiteley got an absolute corker from Gora which jagged back in a long way and bowled him without offering a shot. This started a mini collapse with Tony Taylor and Azam both out without scoring, leaving Drig reeling on 82-5. But Nelson and Thurston battled through the onslaught, scoring 26 off 11 overs, until Thurston was bowled at 108.
