Babes In The Wood 1
Townhouse Morley 1

GROUP B in the Morley Cup looks like going down to the wire to determine which team will progress through to the final.
Cross Keys have an outside chance of getting there, but need to beat Townhouse and hope that Luddites FC can do them a favour by turning over pre-tournament favourites Babes In The Wood on Thursday. The Heavy Woollen Gate Premier side are currently t
opping the table on the same points as Colin Cooney's team, but only on goal difference over the winners from 2006.

Dave Ward opened the scoring for the Babes in their latest game, finishing off a fine move, but Tim Goodwill rose like a salmon at the far post to level the scores on the stroke of half-time.

Antony Miller played on through the pain barrier, pulling off several fine saves, while Iain McGowan and Paul Carney were solid at the back throughout the 90 minutes in displays that earned them recognition from the players and manager in winning the man of the match awards respectively. Goodwill had a glorious opportunity to put Townhouse in front when he missed from close range, just putting his shot wide, as both teams had to settle for the draw in a game well refereed by Ian Johnson.

Townhouse now face their old rivals Cross Keys tonight (Wednesday) at Millshaw, 6.45pm kick-off. All players should meet at the Glen Road changing rooms no later than 5.30pm and their £25.00 membership fee needs paying off in full before the season gets under way.

Luddites FC 2
Townhouse Morley 5

Townhouse made it two wins from their first two Morley Cup games when they beat new Morley side Luddites FC 5-2 in midweek.

Colin Cooney had a host of players unavailable for selection and he raised a few eyebrows when he handed Paul Sullivan the number three shirt, but he did not put a foot wrong at left back throughout the 90 minutes.

After winning their opening fixture 5-0 against South Leeds United, Townhouse were already five up by half-time following goals from David Kiss (two), Mark Earnshaw, Gavin Crossley and Adam Cater. They could have been further in front after missing several clear cut opportunities, but could not add to their tally after the break when Luddites scored with a long range free-kick from inside their own half through Adrian Walker just after the restart. Sean Dearing grabbed a consolation in injury time.

Paul Sullivan won the players' player of the match award in his new found position and Adam Cater got the nod from the manager as he covered nearly every blade of grass.

Morley Town could afford to get beat by three clear goals last night when they were due to take on New Farnley CC who are the only team that can dislodge them to establish who goes through in Group A.

Goals from Danny Connell, Michael Carroll, Dave Griffiths and Dominic Sonigra helped Eddie Green's mixture of youth and experience to a well deserved 4-2 victory over Halfway House on Saturday.
