DESPITE suffering another defeat last weekend, Morley CC can take a big step towards ensuring they do not have to apply for re-election in the Bradford League if they can end their long losing run on Saturday.
The Scatcherd Lane team face a potential make or break game when they travel to take on Lightcliffe in a game starting at 1pm.
Both teams go into the contest in poor form, but know victory here can go a long way towards finishing out of the bottom
two places.
With only four wins each this season it has been a struggle in 2008 and the sides are now locked together on 125 points in second and third bottom after Morley collected three from their seven-wicket defeat against Bankfoot last Saturday and Lightcliffe took four from a 145-run defeat to Keighley.
Morley did beat their re-election rivals at Scatcherd Lane back in June, but that was their last win and since then they have suffered nine straight league defeats in games that have been completed.
The contrast with the Morley second team goes on as they won for the 13th time this season at the weekend to keep up their drive for the Second Teams Division Two crown.
Excellent efforts from Ryan Dowse (67) and Richard Winn (5-8) saw them beat Bankfoot by 67 runs and they are right in the thick of the promotion shake-up on 235 points - just two behind leaders Bradford & Bingley and six ahead of third-placed Undercliffe.
They will expect to pick up a big points haul from this Saturday's home game against bottom of the table Brighouse before facing the table toppers on August 30.
