A DISAPPOINTING batting display saw WOODKIRK slip down the CYL Division Two table after slipping to defeat in their local derby at EAST ARDSLEY A.
At the half way stage, they must have been reasonably pleased after restricting Ardsley to 148-9 with young opening bowler Patrick Hinchcliffe taking 3-14 from 13 overs and Garry Dawber 3-36 from eight. Opener Robin Long (23) and the experienced Michael Pearson (26) gave Ardsley a steady start in reaching 67-3, but their batsmen never really got hold of the Woodkirk bowlers and it needed a battling 38 not out from Dave Chester and 20 not out by Tom Daniels to take the score up to respectability.
However, when it was Woodkirk's turn to bat they also found the going tough right from the off. Opener Makbul Mulla became the first to make the long walk back, lbw to Pearson for four, and a succession of wickets followed as the visitors slumped to 33-5. Opener Steven Dawber remained to give Woodkirk some hope and he finally found a partner sticking around in Hinchcliffe, but by then the side were already 50-7 and when Dawber fell, lbw to Chris Towell for 35, the writing was on the wall. Although Hinchcliffe continued to resist and made 22 not out, Woodkirk were all out for 89 to fall 59 runs short. Wicket takers for Ardsley were Pearson with 5-23, Towell, 2-31, and Chris Austwick, 2-8.
WOODKIRK A remain without a win in Division Four after they lost by six wickets to HUNSLET NELSON A.
Only some late order resistance saw Woodkirk able to reach 121 as they batted first with numbers nine and 10, Chris Thorpe (26) and Richard Oldroyd (19) their top scorers. Mark Loughlan was the pick of the Nelson bowlers with 5-12 from six overs while Adnan Taj took 3-19, Howard Thompson 1-34 and Irfan Amjad 1-16.
Hunslet lost three wickets cheaply at the start of their reply, but were guided to their victory by Andy McIntosh (25) and an unbroken fifth wicket stand of 56 between Amjad (39 not out) and Adam Nicholson (25 not out).
