DRIGHLINGTON
THE Under-11s earned a 7-0 win at Battyeford in their first 11-a- side game.

Drig striker Booth, was a constant threat and he set up Lockhead for a left-footed goal from the edge of the area. Minutes later, Booth headed the ball home. Hard-workin
g MoM Cantrell scored from a free kick to give Drig a 3-0 lead at half-time.

In the second-half Cantrell curled in a corner which was followed by another Lockhead scorcher. Booth then blasted home his second from long range.

Midfielder Haigh completed the scoring with another long range shot.

Central defender Jones was strong and determined in a great team effort.

The Under-8s earned a 9-1 win at Batley Juniors.

They took the lead when a deflected Jamie Lyons shot beat the Batley goalkeeper.

Harry Carney scored the second goal and after some good build up Jamie Lyons made it three from a corner.

Batley pulled one back on the counter-attack.

Drig MoM Peter Gallagher denied further Batley attacks. Before half-time Carney’s cross was deflected into the goal for a 4-0 lead.

Joshua Austerfield opened the second-half scoring before Jason Whittaker made it six from a long range effort. Austerfield got a second and Lyons completed his hat-trick and Jacob Phillips finished the scoring for Dighlington. Batley had a penalty effort saved as they battled hard.

It was the same 9-1 scoreline when the Under-8 B teams met.

Joe Clarke opened the scoring and further pressure resulted in an own goal.

Harry Sharp finished off a good run with a precise shot to make it 3-0.

Smart defending from MoM Jordan Burton and Joshua Field denied Batley. Declan Guy grabbed Drig’s fourth goal and a good passage of play was finished by Tom Solomons to make it 5-0 at the break.

Luke Marshall scored two quick goals to break the second- half deadlock. Solomons also scored his second. Batley’s determination was rewarded with a consolation goal. Before the end Solomons completed his hat-trick.

The previous Wednesday the Under-8s A completed a 6-2 win over Gildersome Spurs.

The goalscorers were Jacob Philips, Jamie Lyons (two), and Harry Carney with two own goals.

Goalkeeper Noah Cage had a solid game and there was some good running by Joshua Austerfield and Harry Carney.

In the B match Drighlington completed a 3-1 victory over Gildersome Spurs with all the action coming in the second half.

Tom Solomons opened the scoring and added a penalty after Spurs had equalised. Luke Marshall sealed the win with a late goal. Earlier Harry Sharp made some good breaks on the wing and substitute defender Noah Cage was strong.

Promoted Drighlington Under-16s announced their arrival with a 4-1 win on a long trip to Dobcross to meet 3Ds.

The home side struck the crossbar in the first five minutes but the Drig defence held firm.

Substitute Conor Firth followed up a parried shot by Ben Moylan for the opening goal.
