Tough times for Chiefs

A TRIP to a fired up Hunslet Warriors proved to be another testing encounter for Churwell Chiefs under 10s as their move up to the top division continued to prove tough.
Churwell started brightly with Connor Thewlis's clever kick-off forcing an error, but despite strong run ins from Charlie Wright and Elliott Makin there was no way through an uncompromising Warriors defence. Hunslet hit back with strong forward runs and despite desperate defence from Brandon Warrior and Callum Bairstow they broke through.
The second half started with another error from Hunslet and an aggressive forward drive from Thomas Smith led to a kick into the in goal area, but the Chiefs could not convert. With time running out it looked like Churwell would go home pointless, but a kick on the last was followed up and grounded by George Barrass for their only try. Thewlis converted to give the final score some respectability.
The opposition gave their award to Liam Kirkness with Thomas Smith getting the coaches award and Tom Crowther man of steel. George Barrass was MoM for his never say die attitude.
