A LOW scoring CYL Division Two game at WOODKIRK on Saturday saw 18 wickets fall and only 145 runs scored.
It was visitors BIRSTALL A who emerged as victors, but not before they suffered a few scares on their way to bettering the home side's 72 all out.

Woodkirk stood on 41-2 at one stage in their innings, but no-one could reach double figures on a dif
ficult wicket after opener Steven Dawber fell for 17 and Mushtaq Navsarka for 11, both within a run of each other. James Tolson led the Birstall bowling with 6-19 from 11.3 overs while Malcolm Ellis claimed 2-14, Adil Taj 1-14 and Richard Sidle 1-10.

Birstall's reply told a similar story as they looked to be comfortably heading for victory when 44-3 only for a mid innings collapse to leave them on 48-7. But after Robert Ellis made 13 and Richard Hobson 10 they found another double figure scorer in Malcolm Ellis whose knock of 15 ultimately clinched the win.

Birstall reached their target with just two wickets to spare and took 45 overs to score the 73 runs. The Woodkirk bowlers were all impressive with Makbul Mulla taking 4-28 from 21 overs, Garry Dawber 2-4 from eight overs and Chris Maguire 1-8.

There was little joy for WOODKIRK A as they crashed to a nine-wicket defeat at Hopton Mills A in Division Four.

Woodkirk's innings lost its way after standing on 97-3 at one stage and they were all out for 124 despite 63 by opener Ilyas Chunara, 25 from Simon Parkinson and 15 by Pat Williamson.

Hopton Mills batsmen then had little trouble reaching their target for the loss of only one wicket, getting home in the 32nd over.
