Maroons ready to extend fine win record

MORLEY RU players, coaches and officials will sit down to Christmas lunch with a good deal of satisfaction and anticipation for the year ahead.

After their relegation from National Three North last season, Dave Murray has really started to turn things around and the Maroons are on a terrific run of seven straight wins in all competitions.

Morley also have a Yorkshire Cup quarter-final against Cleckheaton — ironically the last side to have beaten Morley back on October 20 — to look forward to in February but the real emphasis for 2013 will be to extend their impressive run and mount a sustained promotion challenge.

Morley’s run of six league wins on the bounce has seen the Scatcherd Lane men move up to third place in North One East, closing the gap on second placed Wheatley Hills to just six points and with 12 games still to play, there is real hope that the Maroons could be on the verge of something big.

Morley will hope that the fortnight’s rest will prove enough time for leading points scorer Simon Bradshaw to have recovered from injury and return to the fold.

The Maroons face another blank weekend but return to action on Saturday January 5 when Morpeth are the visitors.

Although a glass or two may well be raised to the club on New Year’s Eve, everyone connected with Morley will be hoping the champagne corks are popping once again come May.
