Pennine League takes a break

THE Pennine League looks set to take a two week break for Christmas and new year, with the majority of sides returning to action on Saturday January 5.

The league asked clubs who wished to play a fixture this coming Saturday to get in touch and with several games falling victim to the weather last week a couple of clubs may decide to fit in an extra game to ease fixture congestion later in the season.

Supporters wanting to try and catch a match this weekend are advised to visit the Pennine League website to see which matches are due to take place.

There will be no league games on Saturday December 29 but there will be a festive fix of amateur rugby when Sharlston Rovers take on Nevison Leap in the Yorkshire Cup final at Featherstone Rovers.

Drighlington, whose game at Queensbury was postponed last weekend, lie third in the Premier Division a point behind joint leaders Queens and Hunslet Old Boys, with the top three sides having all played nine games.

Sharlston are two points off the top with two games in hand.

The Old Boys were held to a surprise 22-22 draw at bottom side Dewsbury Moor last Saturday as they failed to take advantage of Drighlington and Queens’ inactivity.

Drighlington A have been paired away to Kellingley Welfare in the Andrew Bennett Memorial Trophy second round, with the tie to be played on January 5.
