Video: Woodkirk Academy pupils get their skates on for Starlight Express

Waiting for Video...

Woodkirk Academy pupils are literally getting their skates as they make the final preparations the school’s annual production.

The school is ambitiously staging Andrew Lloyd Webber’s rock musical Starlight Express, in which all the cast wear roller skates.

It’s proven to be a challenge for pupils and staff alike, who have been rehearsing after school daily since September.

All the cast underwent intense skating training before beginning to work more traditional acting and singing elements of the show.

The musical will be performed at Woodkirk Academy from Tuesday until Saturday March 22.

Tickets priced £8 for adults (concessions £5) are available from the school’s reception or on 0113 887 3600.
