PLANS could soon be in place that would see a 20mph speed limit along Rein Road.
Coun Judith Elliott raised concerns about the safety of pupils at Woodkirk Academy on the road, leading to the new speed limit being considered by Leeds City Council.
Coun Elliott has asked Highways Agency chiefs to investigate the option of a 20mph zone after similar schemes were introduced on Fountain Street and Scatcherd Lane next to Fountain Primary School and Morley Academy.
Coun Elliott, who is on the governing body at Woodkirk Academy said: “Parents and residents have raised their concerns about the speed of vehicles travelling along Rein Road.
“Many Woodkirk students walk along Rein Road on their way to school and it is important that we keep them as safe as we can.
“Reducing the speed limit will make the road safer.”
Highways Officers are investigating the proposal and exploring financial options to support the scheme.
Coun Elliott said: “The new 20mph zones have been welcomed at other schools and we want to fully explore the option of a similar scheme for Woodkirk.”
