In May 2014:
A public meeting over plans to construct a 55 pitch traveller site next to Morley train station saw 100 people turned away from Morley Town Hall, as five times as many crammed in to have their say. The plans were heavily criticised by councillors and locals. The proposed site was later reduced to 35 pitches before eventually being rejected in the autumn.
A clean-up operation at a crime hotspot in Gildersome was started by Morley’s neighbourhood police, with the support of local volunteers.
The area of land had become associated with drugs and petty crime after being beset with overgrown plants and poor lighting. Anti-social behaviour in the area nosedived after the clean-up.
A block of 10 back-to-back houses on Denton Terrace in Morley went up for auction at a guide price of under £400,000.
