Actress and Alzheimer’s Society supporter Adele Silva has signed up to take part in Leeds Memory Walk and is encouraging others to join her to help raise money to fight dementia.

Adele, whose Nan had dementia, will set walkers off at Leeds Memory Walk on Saturday September 6 at Roundhay Park.

The former Emmerdale actress is a keen fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Society, raising thousands of pounds by appearing on celebrity editions of television shows, including Celebrity Who Wants to be a Millionaire?, Take It or Leave It and The Weakest Link.

She said: “Taking part in a Memory Walk is a brilliant way to celebrate those you’ve loved and lost through dementia, like my wonderful Nan. Seeing how the disease affected her made me determined to do all I can to help the Alzheimer’s Society. And the more funds that can be raised through sponsored events like Memory Walk, the faster that a cure can be found to wipe out the disease once and for all. I’m really looking forward to attending Leeds Memory Walk and would encourage others to join me and sign up today.”

Memory Walk is Alzheimer’s Society’s flagship fundraising event which sees walks taking place around the UK throughout the autumn to raise money to fund vital services for people affected by dementia and their carers. It is a day to walk, share and celebrate someone special and everyone walks with one common goal: to defeat dementia.

Participants at the Leeds Memory Walk can choose between a shorter 2km walk or the longer, more challenging 10km mile walk. Live music, face painting, cakes and refreshments will be waiting for walkers’ after they cross the finish line.
