Charity ‘chuggers’ have been banned from Morley town centre after complaints from shoppers over their aggressive behaviour.
The Town Centre Management Board has put an immediate ban on charity workers harassing people for money and bank account details.
Morley’s Mayor, Wyn Kidger, said she had received many complaints and had seen so-called chuggers - or ‘charity muggers’ – hound people in the street.
She said: “I saw one of them chase a lady up the precinct.
“They do the charities no favours and the last thing we want is people being upset.”
Town event manager Rachael Kennedy, whose group approved the ban, said: “We want people to feel safe and welcome in Morley”.
