Churfest is ready to rock

Ideas that start out as sketches on the back of beer mats are usually doomed to failure.

The exception to that rule is Churfest, Morley’s most rocking event, now in its fourth year.

This year’s festival takes place on Saturday, July 6 and once again the venues is the New Inn, Elland Road, Churwell.

In its first three years, Churfest has raised £8,300 for Help for Heroes and the armed forces’ charity will again be the beneficiary.

Organiser Martin Ward, 56, said: “It’s been fantastic we get the support from everyone in Leeds, Morley and Churwell, but it’s even better when we get support from local veterans like Simon Brown.”

As well as the music there’s plenty of entertainment and fun for the children with rides, trampolines and face painting.

Churfest started life in 2010 when Martin, a New Inn regular, thought the pub would be an ideal venue for a local festival giving exposure to local bands and a different sort of family day out.Who will be performing at Churfest?
