Churwell slimmers celebrated losing a massive 2,000 stone in four years with a tip sharing party.

The village’s Slimming World group currently meets at the soon to close All Saints Church,

Group leader Michelle Carter, said: “ Slimming World have been at All Saints Church for the past 17 years and we will all be very sad when the church closes.

“Since I became a consultant four years ago the Churwell group have lost 2,000 stone, which is over 12 tonnes, I can’t begin to imagine how much weight has been lost in 17 years!

“I’m so proud of everyone who attends my groups, I’d love to show more people in our local area that losing weight doesn’t have to be about deprivation, hunger and calorie counting, and that you can eat chocolate and lose weight!”

Michelle herself has lost four stone and so understands first hand the difficulties of slimming.

She said: “I hear stories every week about members who can now walk with out walking sticks, have had operations cancelled as they now no longer need them and who generally have got their lives back!”

The Churwell group have become an award winning group, winning a Pearl award in March and on Wednesday becoming a Gold group. .

The group, which has a massive 223 members meeting each week,. will be moving to St Peter’s Church on Rooms Lane, at the top of Churwell Hill, on July 1.
