Councillors’ move will not cost more

Morley councillors’ controversial move to the Civic Hall in Leeds will not cost any more than operating from Morley Town Hall, Leeds City Council have insisted.

A Freedom of Information request made by the Observer & Advertiser to the council has found that staffing costs will be the same as those when the Morley Borough Independent Party worked from the town hall.

However, the figures discount the cost of the move itself, which required human labour to transport computers and equipment to the new location.

Paul Burns, senior governance information officer at Leeds City Council said: “I can confirm that the cost of staffing will be the same whether it was based in Morley or Leeds Civic Hall. There would also be no reimbursement for staff and councillors for travel or food.

“At present there has been no maintenance work carried out in the offices.

“There are budgets in place but these are for the overall support for all group offices.”
