Drivers to slow down outside Tingley school

Roads opposite the entrance to Westerton Primary School could be made safer for children walking to and from school.

The school at Hesketh Lane in Tingley could see a 20mph zone introduced once results from the consultation process are back.

The proposed plans have been welcomed by local Morley Borough Independent Councillors.

Coun Shirley Varley said: “Similar school zones have been introduced in other areas and have worked well. Anything that slows traffic down close to children can only be a good thing.

“We know the speed of vehicles is an important issue when it comes to surviving accidents and a slower speed limit for vehicles at these locations keeps us all safer.”

The zone, which is presently going out for consultation, could mean that roads adjacent to the school will have the lower speed limit making it safer for children.
