CHILDREN in Churwell can enjoy pond dipping this summer thanks to the hard work of Churwell Action Group volunteers and a local construction company.

Lee Kavanagh, of LK Construction, stepped in to help after seeing volunteers digging out a new pond in Daffil Woods by hand.

As a result LK Construction and Hale Kavanagh Insurance Brokers of Dewsbury hired for them a mini digger and a driver for the day.

On the hottest day of the year so far, 10 volunteers were able to complete in one day a project they thought would take them a month.

Spokeswoman Janet Harrison said she would like to thank Mr Kavanagh for his kind help which will mean local schools should be able to enjoy pond dipping later this summer.

The group works with locals schools and organisations such as Leeds City Council’s forestry and parks department to improve the environment and facilities and organise events for the community.

They have work taking place every Thursday and one weekend a month and anyone wishing to volunteer should e-mail woodsclarksprings@yahoo.co.uk
