Budding bakers in at a cafe in Gildersome helped raise cash for a cancer charity through a Great Gildersome Bake Off during a coffee morning.

Cake-lovers gathered at Cafe Sorella, Street Lane and raised £600 for Macmillan Cancer Support in a judged baking extravaganza.

The event also featured a raffle with donated prizes.

Owner Karen Rowan said: “It was wonderful to see so many regular and new customers supporting the Bake Off competition to raise money for Macmillan.

“We would like to thank everyone who donated raffle prizes, entered the ‘Bake Off’ competition and supported our first ever Macmillan Coffee Morning.

“We’re so pleased by all the support from the local community, the coffee mornings raise money for a truly worthwhile cause and it has been great fun be a part of it.”

It event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Morley and members of Gildersome Parish Council who judged the Bake Off competition.

They selected Julie Wilby, who wowed them with her lemon tart, as the winner.

Claire Kellen ‘s Kit Kat cake was runner-up and Susan Verity’s coffee and walnut cake finished third place.
