A man was taken to hospital this morning (Monday) after a crash on the M621.
The incident happened at around 10.32am between junction one and two, just before the Elland Road turn off.
Watch commander Hames, of Hunslet Fire Station, said that according to a witness the driver hit the central reservation, then a barrier, before smashing into a road sign and veering into a ditch.
The fire crews had to cut away trees and freed him from the wreckage before he was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with suspected back, neck and spinal injuries.
He was breathing and concious, but watch commander Hames said that if he did not sustain serious injuries then he was very lucky.
The driver is thought to have been in his forties.
Fire crews from Hunslet, Leeds and Morley attended.
