Morley’s own marathan man Craig Whiteley has not only ran thousands of miles for charity, but has also raised thousands of pounds for a cause close to his heart.

Craig, who has taken part in many charity marathons this year, including London and Boston, visited St Gemma’s Hospice to hand over his most recent fundraising effort of £4,537 - bringing the total raised for the Leeds hospice to an impressive £12,150.

Craig said: “My reason for running for St Gemma’s has been in memory of my close friend, John Smith, who spent his last few days being care for there at Christmas 2012.

“John was looked after so well by all the staff and I felt it only right that I should both honour his memory and contribute to the running of such a wonderful organisation.”

Over the years, kind-hearted and energetic Craig has taken part in marathons in Edinburgh, Blackpool, Jersey, the Leeds Half Marathon and Derby Kilomarathon, all to raise money for charity.
