The Mayor of Morley is singing the praises of a landlady and fundraiser.
Coun Wyn Kidger met Diane McKenna, landlady of the Carriers Arms, on Glen Road, who has raised thousands of pounds for a varieties charities close to her heart over the years.
Coun Kidger said: “I was invited as Mayor to attend the Trade Association meeting where members from all over the country including Ireland came along to attend,
“At this meeting, which was held at the Carriers, I met the truly inspirational Diane McKenna.
“Over the years she has not only carried the Olympic Torch, taken part in many marathons and half marathons, but also has raised a staggering £32,000 for various charities.”
Diane was one of 8,000 inspirational people to carry the Olympic Torch on its 70 day, 8,000 mile journey around the UK, after she was nominated for her work for charity and in the community.
She followed in the footsteps of her friend, Iraq veteran Simon Brown, who had also been selected for the honour, and carried the torch on a 300 yard stretch of the route as it passed through Beeston, cheered on by her very proud friends and family.
Coun Kidger said: “Her next fund raiser is a coffee morning at the Carriers Arms on Saturday March 7 at 10am-noon to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
“Please find the time to support this true legend of a lady.
“She may only be small but my goodness , she has a massive heart of true gold.”
