Votes in the local elections are being counted at Morley Town Hall.

Candidates, supporters and council officials are packed into Morley Town Hall, where votes are being counted this morning (Friday).

Winning candidates in the Morley North and Morley South wards, but currently held by Morley Borough Independents, will be announced at the town hall.

Votes are also being counted for the Ardsley and Robin Hood ward at Leeds Civic Hall.

Coun Robert Finnigan, who is standing for re-election for Morley North, said he was “cautiously optimistic” ahead of the final result.

He said: “Until the last votes is counted you just don’t know.

“It’s looking very promising. We think all things being equal we are have probably held both seats.

“There seems to be a smaller turnout this year. A lot more people are voting through the post though.”

The turnout in the Morley South ward was announced as just over 30 per cent, lower than in the previous local election.
