A new football team has been formed in Morley to be based at the Scatcherd Lane Cricket & Sports Club.
Declan Parnell is the man behind the creation of Morley AFC as he aims to reverse the decline of football in the town.
He said: “Growing up in Morley in the 90s you had teams running from every pub. Nowadays with the cost of running a football club being really expensive, this hinders everyone’s fun to get playing football.
“To try and get the people of Morley interested, I placed a feeler out on a local Morley Facebook page to see if people would be interested in playing football. I was astonished with how many people came to me and said that they would be interested.
“Creating the social media pages came first, website second. Then I needed the players and the sponsors. Within two weeks I had 25 people saying they would like to sign up to the club. The first training session was a hit and we have kept steady numbers for three weeks in a row now, with pre-season starting in July.
“We found a sponsor in Manning Stainton, who are the sponsors of our home kit and I couldn’t be happier at this point as the little idea I had was becoming real.”
