The Post Office is proposing to relocate Haigh Moor Road Post Office in Tingley to a new location where it will open as a modern local-style open-plan branch with extended opening hours.

Post Office local is a new concept for delivering Post Office services and the new Haigh Moor Road branch will offer Post Office products and services from an open-plan till at the retail counter throughout shop opening hours instead of from a screened counter position.

The proposed new location for the branch is L&B News, on Westerton Road, 50 metres on the opposite side of the road from the present location at 2 Haigh Moor Lane.

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a public consultation. The period of public consultation has been extended by 10 working days to allow for the holiday period over Christmas and will close on January 16 2015.

Should the move go ahead, the branch would open from 6am-6pm Monday to Saturday and 7am–2pm Sunday. This would offer an extra 33 hours of Post Office service every week.

The proposed move is part of major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

Adrian Wales, Regional Manager said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Tingley and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and marks a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

During the public consultation, Post Office Ltd welcomes feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on this proposal. The consultation will close on January 16 2015.
