DOG lovers are invited to do a sponsored dog walk this Sunday in aid of Whitehall Dog Rescue in East Ardsley.

The independent dog home on Cave Lane has just gained charitable status and the three mile walk will be the first of many fundraising events.

All animal lovers are welcome to go along from 1pm on April 10, visit the kennels and walk the route before tucking into refreshments.

Local wedding photographer Craig Garside will also be there.

A dog lover himself, he has given up a day off to take dog and family photos to raise more funds.

Whitehall Dog Rescue’s founder Brian Wheelhouse said visitors are welcome to bring their own dogs or may even take out one of the many animals at Whitehall which are in need of a new home.

Leeds motorcyle and car dealer Brian Wheelhouse set up Whitehall in 1992 when he discovered how many unwanted dogs were being needlessly destroyed - and set out to rescue as many as he could from death row.

Dog rescue became his mission in life and in 2004 he sold his business and moved to East Ardsley, where he continues to give dogs a second chance and provide people with a new best friend.

He said: “We would welcome support in our mission and quest to find forever homes for our loving dogs.

“Each dog has a story to tell, but as Whitehall is a small independent dog rescue we need all the support we can get to help raise our profile and awareness within our local community.

“There are many ways people can help us, we have just set up a Facebook page, people can sponsor our dogs and food donations and toys are always welcome!”
