With the Tour de France but a few months away, Morley Police are hoping members of the community will be ‘En Garde’ in terms of bike security.

Ward Manager PC Paul Coates has provided a few useful tips for bike owners.

He said: “If you have a good bike, try not to mention it. All you will do is highlight a possible rich picking for the thief.

“Try not to leave bikes in sheds or if you do make sure that the shed has a substantial lock and invest in a shed alarm or ground anchor.

“Finally, make sure you note down the exact details, including serial numbers of your bike and photograph it as in the unlikely event it is stolen it makes it easier to reunite you with it if we can positively identify it.”

If you know someone who has a taste for stealing bikes, contact PC Coates and PC Chris Dibbs who available on the police non-emergency number 101 and they will treat any information in the strictest confidence.

Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
