A Tory backbencher has joked that he was getting in quick in a Commons questions session "before the Prime Minister's inevitable call to me".
Philip Davies made the quip at Home Office questions as Theresa May reshuffles her Cabinet.
Shipley MP Mr Davies has not held a ministerial post since his election in 2005.
Before asking a question about police funding, Mr Davies said: "I thought I'd better get in quick before the Prime Minister's inevitable call to me."
The Commons burst into laughter at the suggestion, with Speaker John Bercow saying: "I'm sure she's keeping the job open for him.
"I feel more certain of it now than ever."
Policing minister Nick Hurd joined in the joke in his reply, saying: "I'd better keep my answer short then."
