Applications for a new member of the town council will be heard at its meeting tonight.

Members of the public were recently invited to apply for one of the four seats in the Scatcherd ward, which was left vacant by the sudden resignation of then council leader Paul Cook earlier this summer.

Candidates must give a five-minute presentation about themselves and explain why they believe they would be a suitable candidate. The successful candidate will also be announced tonight.

The criteria for applicants was to have either owned land or worked in Morley, or lived within three miles of the town within the last 12 months. Applications from anyone registered as a local government elector for the town on the current Electoral Register were also under consideration.

The successful candidate will join councillors Nigel Bell, Hazel P Bradley and Dinah Jones in representing Scatcherd.

Coun Cook left his post in July due to personal reasons.
