Ziggy Stardust, Alice in Wonderland, Disney characters and superheroes invaded Gildersome on Sunday for this year’s annual Scarecrow Festival.

Now in its eighth year, the popular event welcomed people from far and wide to take part in the trail, spotting dozens of scarecrows placed around the village.

Children from the village entertained the watching crowd with their maypole dancing on The Green and a miniature steam train took hundreds of youngsters for a quick ride.

And there was plenty of food on the go with burgers cooking away on the barbecue and lots of treats for visitors - young and old.

Gawthorpe Brass Band filled the air with music along with other live bands.

And no village event would be complete without the Punch and Judy.

The historic Quaker Meeting House, on Street Lane, opened its doors for the festival and welcomed more than a thousand people through its door to see the ‘Quaker Peace Scarecrows’ that were on display.

The winner of the competition trail was Mel Jordan from Morley.

And prizes for best the scarecrows went to Miley Cyrus who took first place , second place went to the pirate, third place was taken by the Potato Heads, the scouting activities took fourth and in fifth place was the Gruffalo.
