Batley Bulldogs edged through to the fifth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup on Sunday 21-18 at Hunslet Hawks.
Hunslet led 6-0 after a tight first quarter thanks to a ninth-minute try from Andy Yates converted by Luke Helliwell.
Three tries in the final 11 minutes of the first half from Ian Preece, Gareth Moore and Alex Walmsley plus a Moore conversion saw Batley 14-6 ahead at the break.
Gareth Potts scored a try, converted by Moore, four minutes into the second half but Hunslet stormed back five minutes later as David March touched down to see the Bulldogs’ lead cut to 20-10.
The Hawks’ Stuart Kain had a try ruled out for offside before Batley failed to turn an spell of good possession into points.
Seven minutes from time Yates raced in for the Hawks to reduce the deficit to six points.
Moore landed a drop goal for Batley soon after before two minutes from time March dived over for his second try. Hunslet launched late raids but Batley just held on to win through.
