FOUR former Churwell Chiefs junior players have been included in the England Rugby League Under 18 train on squad ahead of next month's Test match against France in Perpignan.
Ben Kaye and James Archibald, who are both on Leeds Rhinos’ books, plus Aaron Murphy, of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, and Leon Walker, of Salford City Reds, are in a squad of 24 which will be reduced to a travelling party of 18 this weekend.
All four impressed for Yorkshire in the recent Roses game with Lancashire at Warrington when Walker was named man of the match in what was effec- tively a final trial.
They will now be keeping fingers crossed to stay injury free and make the final 18 for
an international taking place on Wednesday, July 11 at either the Stade Gilbert Brutus or St Esteve.
It promises to be a stern task for the young England lads with the French game at this level decidedly on the up. Weather conditions are expected to be warm and with the home crowd likely to be in especially patriotic mood in the run-up to Bastille Day a couple of days later, this could turn out to be a real test of character for the English youngsters. The initial England squad includes three more Rhinos Academy players - Danny Allan, Simon Brown and Ben Jones - and is dominated by Wigan Warriors who contribute seven players.
The squad in full is: Danny Allan (Leeds Rhinos); James Archibald (Leeds Rhinos); Nathan Armitage (Bradford Bulls); Matthew Blythe (Warrington Wolves); Ross Bradley (Wigan Warriors); Simon Brown (Leeds Rhinos); Dayne Donoghue (Widnes Vikings); Kyle Eastmond (St. Helens); Vinny Finnigan (Bradford Bulls); Neil Holland (Wigan Warriors); Danny Houghton (Hull FC); Ben Jones (Leeds Rhinos); Ben Kaye (Leeds Rhinos); Lee Mitchell (Warrington Wolves); Lee Mossop (Wigan Warriors); Aaron Murphy (Wakefield Trinity Wildcats); Larne Patrick (Bradford Bulls); Luke Rhoden (Wigan Warriors); Nicholas Stanton (Wigan Warriors); Andrew Thornley (Wigan Warriors); Sam Tomkins (Wigan Warriors); Jordan Turner (Salford City Reds); Leon Walker (Salford City Reds); Scott Yates (Widnes Vikings).
