Broncos’ fight-back falls just short in first-ever final

Beeston Broncos under-13s were defeated by Keighley Albion in their first appearance in the Yorkshire Juniors Continuation Cup final, played at Featherstone Rovers’ Bigfellas Stadium.

Trailing 20-4 at half-time to a powerful Keighley side, the Broncos showed great spirit and skills to fight back magnificently in the second half, scoring three tries to one, only to lose out by 24 points to 16 at the final whistle.

The club, parents and new sponsors LHA Car and Commercial Vehicles, of Rothwell, are all proud of the effort put in by the whole team in the club’s first final outing – the boys and coaches coming away with a determination to work hard with the aim of making more final appearances in the future.

Try scorers for the Broncos were Aiden Robinson (two), Zak Smith and Cameron Phillis.

The Broncos are on the look out for new players in school years reception, 1, 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 as they look to the future with a growing enthusiasm. Other south Leeds sides took part in the Yorkshire Juniors finals with excellent victories for Hunslet Club Parkside’s under 12s, 16-8 against Bradford Dudley Hill in the Continuation Cup, and Hunslet Warriors under 13s, 28-10 against Featherstone Lions in the Challenge Cup final. In the Under 14s Challenge Cup final, Hunslet Warriors lost 20-10 to Kippax.
