Mixed fortunes for Hunslet Hawks

There were mixed fortunes for Hunslet Hawks in their two pre-season games at the weekend.

On Saturday Hawks suffered a 46-0 defeat by a strong Salford Red Devils side but were encouraging and unlucky not to get on the scoreboard.

Hunslet defended well throughout but the Super League side’s superior finishing made the difference.

Forwards Brad Brennan and Brooke Broughton impressed.

It was 24-0 at the break, with Scott Taylor, Mason Caton-Brown, Rangi Chase and Greg Johnson crossing.

Theo Fages, who had an outstanding game for Salford at scrum-half, scored soon after half-time, but Hawks then held out until the final five minutes before Chase, Caton-Brown and Niall Evalds took advantage of a tiring defence.

It was a different story in the visit to Doncaster yesterday and Jimmy Watson and Michael Haley both crossed twice in a 42-12 win at Doncaster.

Richie Barnett, Liam Mackay and Mufaro Mvududu also crossed and Danny Ansell converted all seven tries.
